Introduction: Winter’s Call to Reflection
Scripture:
Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Reflection:
As I sit here, reflecting on the season we’re about to enter, I can’t help but think of the quiet invitation that winter brings. Here in Texas, the weather may not be as cold as in other places, but there’s still something about the season that slows everything down. The shorter days and longer nights naturally invite us to pause and reflect, even if the chill isn’t quite here yet.
For me, winter has always been a time to draw closer to God. I enjoy being inside having coffee with my family by the fire, or quiet time in the stillness of the night reading God's love letter he wrote for me and you or journaling my prayers. I look forward to the change, the stillness that comes with it. I think of how even without snow, we are invited to pause, to be still, and to listen. It’s in these moments of quiet that I find God’s presence most tangible, reminding me that He is always near, no matter the temperature outside.
The Psalmist calls us to "be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). In the busy rush of life, winter invites us to slow down and simply rest in His presence. It’s a time to reflect on His goodness, to find warmth in His promises, and to prepare for the new year ahead.
I’ve found that, like a tree shedding its leaves to prepare for new growth, winter helps me to let go of what no longer serves me—whether it’s distractions, unhealthy habits, or anxieties—and focus more clearly on the God who remains constant and faithful.
As we begin this season of reflection, I invite you to join me in embracing winter’s quiet call to rest, to reflect, and to grow. I’m looking forward to sharing this journey with you as we discover how God meets us in the stillness of winter.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of winter, for the stillness and peace that come with it. Help me to embrace this time of reflection, to slow down and listen for Your voice. I pray that I would grow closer to You during this season, and that You would renew my heart and mind in Your presence. Amen.
