Suicide Prevention Month Sept

A Heartfelt Reflection on Suicide Awareness Month As we wrap up the first full week in September, a month dedicated to raising awareness about suicide and mental health, I find my heart growing heavy with the weight of this topic. It’s a subject that has touched the lives of people I love, and I have even lost dear ones to this battle. Each day, I carry their memory with me, and it reminds me how important it is to shine a light on mental health, especially as believers in Christ. The world can feel like a hard and lonely place at times, but as Christians, we are called to be a light for those around us. Matthew 5:14 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” And yet, there are moments when even the strongest among us feel lost in darkness. It’s in these moments that we must remember God’s enduring love and His promise to carry us through our struggles.

Mental health challenges don’t discriminate—they touch all walks of life, regardless of faith or background. They affect the young, the old, the successful, the struggling, the hopeful, and the weary. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or walking through a difficult season, I want you to know that you are not alone. God is with you friend, and His love is greater than any pain or hardship we face.

I want to take this opportunity to share a reminder with my readers: it’s okay to seek help. It’s okay to be vulnerable. As the Bible teaches us in Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

We were never meant to walk through life’s hardships alone. If you are struggling today, or if you’ve lost someone to suicide, my heart goes out to you.

I pray that you find comfort in the love of Christ and in the support of those around you. In Psalm 34:18, we are reminded that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit .” There is hope, even in the darkest times, and there is grace for every day. To those who feel unseen, unheard, or unloved, I want you to know that your life is precious. God has a plan for you, even when it feels like the road is long and uncertain. I pray that this month serves as a reminder that reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness but of courage and faith. If you or someone you know is struggling, I encourage you to lean on both your faith and the resources available. Whether through prayer, counseling, or a trusted friend, you don’t have to carry the burden alone.

As we go through this month, let’s remember to keep an eye on those around us. Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus, showing love, compassion, and understanding to anyone who might be suffering in silence. Sometimes, a kind word, a prayer, or just being there for someone can make all the difference. I pray for peace over your heart and mind, and for all those facing struggles unseen. Together, let’s lift up those in need, and let’s remember that every day is a gift.

With love and faith,

Jess
