Today would be the last time she would be walking out of the trailer, Cassie thought as she looked around at the broken glass from a vase Mike had thrown directly at her head the night before. That moment as she stood holding a grubby kitchen town to the wound his pitch had caused was the moment her mind finally was made up. She was determined to get out of the relationship. Not only for her sake but both Ethan and ally her eight and ten year olds as well. The kids had seen her use concealer to cover up the wounds before an outing to church or the grocery store many times. Cassie feared that Ethan would learn that saying mean and vicious things to your wife and throwing things while a man stood behind a dark mask of pure rage was the action of every so-called man. While sweet little Allison would learn to cower and cover up bruises defending a man harming her physically, and emotionally was normal. She would try and explain that the actions that happened when their father slammed the screen door and started a brutal verbal fight fast spinning into slapping or throwing things at their mother was nothing but wrong. It wasn’t until that night with her head stinging she looked around at the cans of beer cans littering the makeshift coffee table that she knew it would only be her actions that would teach her little blessings the right lessons. The document had been signed after Mike had fought her on the idea of a divorce relentlessly for the past six months Cassie would finally be free. She could sit outside on an actual porch and enjoy her favorite fizzy soda with her children. There would be no more arguments waking them up in the middle of the night. Freedom never felt so good as she tossed the last couple of large black trash bags into the back of her run down minivan. both the vehicle and her had survived a lot but they both had stood the test of time and were still standing strong in the fight.

As she looked back at the pale yellow piece of metal she had laughed inside those tin walls far less times than she had cried, It was time for that to change. That change all started by hopping behind the wheel and driving up the dearth path for the highway. She was finally on her way home. Both the vehicle and her had survived a lot but they both had stood the test of time and were still standing strong in the fight.
