Sprint #4

Updated: Sep 25, 2022

This is an unedited piece written during a fifteen-minute sprint and published here:

Tonight's prompt was inspired by a recent birthday we celebrated in my family.

Prompt your character wakes up wearing a strange hat

The sun broke through the curtains shining it's glaring light right on her face. Just a few more winks she prayed. As she twisted her body to the side, tucked her head opposite of where it belonged, something got stuck on it. A hat? Lifting the pillow up she placed her hand on top of her head. That's strange. Where did that come from? I don't remember wearing a hat to bed. Some magic little fairy must have visited her in the night. Just then the bedroom door opened. Peaking thru the crack were two little beautiful eyes. In come walking her sweet angel complete with her own bed head.

"Happy birthday!" Oh wow how had she forgotten her own birthday? That explained the cone pink hat she had discovered a few minutes earlier. Behind the young girl came her mama and other kids. They all knew how to make a mama feel special. They brought in a plate of three fluffy buttermilk pancakes with bacon for mouth and two pats of butter for the eyes. The girls gave her homemade cards with purple butterflies drawn on them. It was indeed the best way to wake up on her special day. She even wore the hat the rest of the day. 211 words
