Since 2003 on September 17th, National Country Music Day has been a thing. The seventeenth of September is actually the birthday of the late Hank Williams. I wanted to take the marked day to share my love for country music. Being from the Lonestar state, it is almost a requirement to live here. Small town Texas makes this bounce up even higher on the necessary Texan resident list. Not really. I fell in love with country music because of the storytelling aspect. Surprise anyone? Probably not.
The songs that are on my top favorites list tell stories though. Of people falling in love. Like “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. Sad songs such as Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take the Girl” even tell a story. A story of heartbreak, prayer, and hope. We never really find out what happened to the people in the songs like we might a epilogue of a novel. It left up to the listener to interrupt. I think therefore I gravitate to music so much. Especially in this genre. Music speaks to the soul. It can help you process particular moods. Even start praying for what is on your mind.
