Jessica's Word for 2023

Jess is sharing her word for the year

First of all, it's February, so I know you are asking yourself “why now?” I understand that most people share the chosen word of the year at the beginning of the new year. Partly I am only sharing now because life has been crazy & my website has fallen behind. This is only proof I am human. Second, it took me a little bit to decide on a word this year. I hear you saying “ok. Enough already”, so I won’t stall anymore

My word for the year 2023 is JOY!

I chose this word after it repeatedly in different formats was glaring in my face. It was proof that in many areas of my life; it is time to return to what brings my soul joy.

What does Joy mean to me?

Through the looks of small people around me, joy is that smile when they receive a surprise. It’s that pure happiness I receive by doing actions that fill the well and bring me a smile. It’s a reminder that I am enough.

How am I planning on finding the Joy?

Reading words written by authors I admire. Having their stories, I can escape the busyness of life even if for just a short time.

Writing: This might be obvious to someone who has nearly shouted from the rooftops that she wants to be a published author. However, last year my day job required being placed at the top of the priority list and writing was the last thing I made time for.

Simple things: I plan to find joy in mundane things.

Self Care: As a mom, full-time employee, and woman in 23 this can be an item that gets shoved under the bed and lost until spring cleaning comes around I am planning on attempting to do things that are just for me regularly. This might be just painting my nails at night, but I know that seeing my favorite pink nail polish will spark joy in the morning.

These are just a few ways that I am embracing the word Joy this year. Do you choose a word of the year? What word did you choose? If so, please share the below. I love hearing about why people choose a certain word. In the past, some of the words I have focused on were Create, Faith, Grateful, and Journey.
