Celebrating National Hug Your Kids Day: A Proud Mama's Reflection on Nicknames

As a proud mama of three wonderful children, National Hug Your Kids' Day is a day that holds a special place in my heart. It’s a reminder to cherish every moment, to embrace the chaos, the laughter, and the love that comes with being a parent. It's a day to wrap our little ones in the warmest hugs and remind them how deeply they are loved and cherished.

In my household, each of my children has a unique nickname that reflects their personality and the joy they bring into our lives. My oldest, whom we affectionately call Bubba Bear, is a gentle giant with a heart as big as his teddy bear hugs. Then there's my spirited Monkey Girl, a nickname given to her by her paternal grandmother. She is creative, sweet, and funny, always exploring Last but not least, my little Hootie Hoot, a name I started calling her before she was born because she liked to kick soccer balls at night. She fills our home with her boundless energy and infectious giggles.and still my little Hootie Hoot, always observing and learning from the world around her.

These nicknames aren’t just playful monikers; they’re endearing expressions of the love and unique bonds we share. Each time I call out to Bubba Bear, Monkey Girl, or Hootie Hoot, it's a small celebration of their individuality and the special moments we’ve created together.

National Hug Your Kids Day is more than just a day on the calendar; it's a heartfelt reminder to hold our children close, to acknowledge the love and happiness they bring into our lives, and to create lasting memories with them. It's a day to slow down, to pause from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and to simply appreciate the little things – like a nickname that brings a smile to your face and warmth to your heart.

So, on this National Hug Your Kids Day, I encourage you to take a moment to embrace your children, to tell them how much they mean to you, and to celebrate the unique quirks that make them who they are.

And I can’t help but wonder – do your kids have nicknames too? Is this a little tradition that spreads joy in other families as it does in ours? Or is it just a Texas thing?

Sending hugs to all the Bubba Bears, Monkey Girls, Hootie Hoots, and every other precious child. Hug them a little tighter today and cherish these beautiful moments.
